Joseph Buttiglieri is a shareholder concentrating his practice in the areas of probate litigation and administration, conservatorships, guardianships, wrongful death distributions, family law, and mediation.

Mr. Buttiglieri is a popular speaker and writer on topics in his focus areas. He is able to hold the attention of attorneys and non-attorneys. For years, he has often been a featured presenter at the annual ICLE Probate and Estate Planning Seminar and at other ICLE seminars. Recently he was the speaker at the Wayne County Probate Court Guardian Ad Litem seminar on the topic of probate litigations and spoke to the Macomb County Probate Bar Association on Creditors’ Claims in Estate Administration.

Mr. Buttiglieri has served as mediator on many cases over the years. In 2012, he became a certified mediator. For a number of years he served as a member of the Supreme Court Subcommittee on Standard Jury Instructions for Probate Court. In addition, Mr. Buttiglieri maintains an “AV” peer review rating with Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, the highest peer review rating for attorneys. He was also selected for inclusion in the 2008-2020 issues of Michigan Super Lawyers magazine featuring the top 5% of attorneys in Michigan, published annually by Law & Politics. Mr. Buttiglieri has also been selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America© 2022 in the field of Litigation – Trusts and Estates (Copyright 2021 by Woodward/White, Inc., of SC). He has been included in the Best Lawyers listing since 2009. Mr. Buttiglieri was also recognized by Best Lawyers as the 2022 “Lawyer of the Year” for Litigation – Trusts and Estates. Additionally, he was selected by a vote of his peers to be included in DBusiness magazine’s list of Top Lawyers in 2013 and 2017 in the practice area of Trusts and Estates. He has also been designated a “Leading Lawyer” in Family Law and Trust, Will & Estate Planning Law for the years 2013 to the present (a distinction granted to the top 1% of attorneys in Michigan).
