Mark Filipp, shareholder and director at Kemp Klein, has over 30 years of litigation experience.
During his career, Mark Filipp has been involved in a broad range of business disputes, with extensive experience defending companies in employment litigation cases filed in state and federal courts throughout Michigan, as well as employment claims before the EEOC and MDCR. He also has significant experience defending companies, directors, and officers against claims of shareholder oppression, breach of fiduciary duty, and negligence. Mr. Filipp’s labor experience includes representing companies in union contract negotiations and defending companies against unfair labor practice charges before the NLRB.
Mr. Filipp has defended employers in employment cases of all types, including wrongful discharge, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, defamation, and whistleblower actions. In addition, he is regularly involved in the preparation of employment agreements, covenants not to compete, confidentiality agreements, and litigation involving their enforceability. Mr. Filipp has extensive experience negotiating severance agreements and packages for both employers and employees. Mr. Filipp also provides regular counsel to employers concerning matters such as reductions in force, employee discipline, and employee discharge. He also counsels employers on compliance matters involving federal and state law, including COBRA, ADA, FMLA, HIPAA, and wage/hour matters under the FLSA and state laws.
Mr. Filipp has been an author of many books and articles on employment law and is a frequent lecturer on current employment law issues. He has been the co-author of the Employment Law Answer Book, a comprehensive treatise on employment law, for over 17 years. Mr. Filipp also taught the “Employment Law Series” at Schoolcraft College Continuing Education Services and conducts in-house training for employers on various employment law topics geared toward reducing risk and exposure to employment litigation.
Mr. Filipp maintains an “AV Preeminent” Peer Review Rating from the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, the highest peer rating awarded to attorneys.
He has been selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® 2026 in the fields of Commercial Litigation and Litigation – Labor and Employment and has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America® continuously since 2018.
